The proposal is to extend the existing property. A new stepped addition completes the transition between the different levels of the house and the garden at the rear. The new extension is composed of the intersection of two volumes, which provides new external spaces such as stairs, terrace, and courtyard towards the garden. Internally, the extension works as a way to amplify the relationship between the existing property and the outside. By providing large windows facing the garden, the internal light condition of the house is intensified, creating the circumstances to host new spaces such as living, dining, and bedroom. The new extension engages with the strong character of the existing brick and tile building, proposing the combination of brick and lime render. The dismantling of the rear wall provides on-site waste streams, reused as raw materials. Salvaged bricks are crushed to create a red-pink pigment for the lime render — embedding traces of the original structure into the new.
