Recalling the enclosed farmsteads of Irish courtyard houses, the existing home nestles at the edge of Cratloe Forest. A new arm extends from it, adopting an introverted courtyard typology that offers shelter from the elements while enclosing a south facing garden. Framed on three sides by contrasting landscapes, the cultivated garden, open meadow and dense woodland, it engages in a quiet dialogue with its agricultural surroundings, cultivating a strong relationship between interior and exterior. The existing wing of the house is built with masonry walls, while the new addition is finished with textured lime render externally and lime plaster internally.
